First Day of Classes

This was my outfit for the first day of school (I felt like my own mother, taking my photos to remember my "first day outfit" haha). The first day proposed a bit of a challenge, just in terms of having to attend many diverse functions with no time inbetween time to change, which is probably why I went for the LBD. I had to work at the Library in the morning, then head straight to registration, then have my student id photo taken, then head to the official (formal) welcome reception for the graduate institute students, then go to classes from 2:30pm-9:30pm. THEN after that I went to this thing called "After Seminar Gathering" which I found out is kind of a big deal. It is basically this pretty informal gathering of the graduate students in a pretty formal room on campus. This happens twice a week after late night seminar and the students show up to mingle and enjoy wine/beer/food all curtisy of the college (oh so THAT'S why I'm paying so much tuition!). All in all the nights are a fun time for students to hang out with professors (called "tutors" at St. John's) and eat/drink in a fancy setting. Very enjoyable. Back to my original point, I needed a fairly versatile outfit for the day's events, and this is what I chose. Old faithful, can't go wrong with the infamous little black dress.

The dress is from Uniqlo, and the shoes are from Urban Outfitters.

a sneezing shot--too good to leave out

Skype Outfits, Apparently

After taking the pictures of my room the other day I moved some things around and made it even more sweet in here. I now have my own comfy reading chair and a few other new additions.

Yesterday morning I had a nice leisurely read before heading out for a Skype date (story of my life). Here is what I wore to the Skype date: skirt-Urban Outfitters, tube top- Forever 21, shoes- Old Navy, crazy big silver ring that you can't see very well- Club Monaco.

In the afternoon I came home, read, and then went out for a Father's Day Skpye date (can you find the pattern emerging?). It was later in the afternoon and I'd been lounging so I felt like something a little more casual. Here my shirt is from Urban Outfitters, pants are from H & M, belt is from The Old Hide House, shoes are Sperry's (the only reason I have friends in Annap., haha), and in the 'mid-section shot' you can see the Club Monaco ring a little bit better:

Moving Day

Today I moved into my new dorm. Up until now I have been in an intern housing building with students who are working on campus, or in Annapolis, over the summer. But I'm sure I'll still see them around all the time (just made yoga plans with one girl who I bumped into "downtown").

Any sadness that came from leaving has totally been offset by how awesome my new room is. Here are a few photos:

definitely not all of them

(did you notice the man in my bed...)

...Michel Foucault finger puppet, haha.

Moving this morning was quite a process, but now it's all said and done and I'm pretty much set up already (grungy moving outfit to the left). Now for a little secret: despite what the financial aid office tells you, St. John's is a pretty wealthy college. The building I'm in was built in 2006 and it's awesome (did you see the closet!?).

The bathroom is across the hall, but it's all mine, and the common room on my floor is floor to ceiling windows and overlooks the 'college creek' where the boathouse is. There is free laundry in the basement, and another common room with a crazy big flat screen TV. Ridiculous. To those of you coming to visit--you're welcome, haha. Here are a few pictures of my grungy moving outfit:

Oh, funny story that I'm pretty sure most of you will appreciate. Today when I ran into a friend from the old building she was all "you're going to have to get a phone!!" haha. Giving in on that one may take longer than the blog :)

This next outfit was worn later on in the day on a little walk downtown with a lovely woman that I met just across the hall from me. I'm wearing a white tank top from Gap, which I love because of the sweet embroidered racer back. I generally don't really like racer backs, but this one is special enough to have won me over.

The skirt is a Bronwyn giveaway, the clutch is from a vintage store in Niagara, the leaf earrings are from Value Village-Charlottetown, and apparently I wear that L.L. Bean belt a lot.

Today!

So I am finally caught up on posting my outfits from the last few weeks. There has not been much to the posts besides a few quick comments on what I'm wearing, but hopefully that will change now that I'll be going pretty much day by day.

Today I wore this outfit to work, and then down by the waterfront to read for a bit. I bought the skirt in grade 10 from Bluenotes, and I'm actually wearing it inside out here because I like the sheer beige lining (a little fun trick I like to pull sometimes). The t-shirt is from Urban Outfitters, belt L.L. Bean Kids, shoes Value Village in Toronto, and the earrings were from a Toronto garage sale (risky, yet profitable move, haha).

I was quite pleased wearing this breezy, fun outfit by the water. So pleased, in fact, that I stayed out too long and got a major u-neck t-shirt tan. Nice. Tomorrow is also the day that I move dorms into the summer Graduate Residence here on campus, so I'll have to wear something that doesn't make me look so imprudent, seeing the other Grad students for the very first time, haha.

I liked this picture because I look like an 8 month old getting used to standing up "all by herself" haha. I don't remember what actually did happen here, but I am sure it was an accident of some sort. Yikes.

Here are a few silly pictures:

looking pleased with myself

subtly showing off my earrings (and my eastern european profile)

Below is evidence of my u-tan. After coming home I went to read by the creek behind the college in attempt to lessen the tan (total fail). The sunglasses are from a market somewhere in northern Toronto, the Hat is from NZ, the black tube top is from Urban Outfitters, the black shorts are from Gap, not that you can see either of the last two items well!

Sunshine

What a happy little yellow dress!! I found this somewhere on Ossington in one of the vintage stores north of Dundas. And I can't remember where that wooden leaf pin comes from, but I think it was another PEI Value Village purchase.

When I wore this dress to work the one male that I work with commented on it and said "I love those big [side] pockets, such big buttons!" haha. I thought it was cute of him.

L.I.B.

I rarely wear scarfs like this, so I was pleased with the branching out I accomplished in this outfit, haha. The scarf comes from Charlottetown's own Value Village, this creme knit shirt is from Urban Outfitters, and the Skirt is Club Monaco (one of fabulous Bronwyn's rejects). Another L.I.B. outfit!

I'm just realizing now that the colours in the scarf are rather, USA of me.

Tooth of the Hound

The top picture here reminds me of Jazz. Not sure why, it's either my posture, or some weird affiliation I make between her and hounds tooth. This skirt is from Fairweathers, and I've had it since grade 9 or 10. What a long lasting gem! The plain white t-shirt is from Gap, and the black flats are from Old Navy. Come to think of it, maybe it's my pony tail that reminds me of Jazz...thoughts?

I realized that I've forgotten to note my open drawers in these last few posts. But oh look!! There they are, again.

The next little guys that appear below are just be taking silly photos (obviously). I must have been ready early for work--a rare occurrence that always allows time for important, highly productive things......
